Accepting applications on a rolling basis
Visual Anthropology Center (VAC) in Belgrade invites filmmakers, visual anthropologists, artists, and researchers to apply for its residency program. The residency specializes in visual anthropology, but is also open to individual and collaborative projects in the field of experimental ethnography, creative documentary film, and other artistic mediums. Residents can apply with a project that will end in a public showing or use the time and space of the residency to reflect and research or write, without a specific outcome.
VAC offers flexible residency packages that can last from around 1–2 months and range from 1000–1500 euros per month, depending on the requirements of the project.
Residents receive:
◦ Accommodation and studio space in central Belgrade
◦ Additional workspace and connection to a vibrant local community through Community Center KROV, an independent creative hub that hosts lectures, events and exhibitions throughout the year.
◦ Project guidance and mentorship from film professionals, ethnomusicologists, producers, artists, curators and anthropologists.
◦ Connections to local cultural and academic institutions, archives, galleries and exhibition spaces.
◦ Access to camera equipment, translators for fieldwork or editing, fixers and whatever services or materials the project requires.
◦ Opportunity to exhibit a final project in the form of an exhibition, installation, screening, workshop or lecture.
Eligible projects have the opportunity to be promoted through VAC's platforms and partner networks, including the Vizantrop Film Festival, ensuring regional and international visibility within the field of visual anthropology.
Applicants are invited to submit an application:
◦ a project proposal (up to 2 pages)
◦ a website or portfolio of previous work or research
◦ a short biography
◦ the preferred residency period
We encourage all accepted applicants to apply for external funding for the residency fee and other expenses, including exhibition expenses (if necessary), travel, and transport. VAC will provide a letter of agreement and support participants in finding additional funding options from VAC partners and funds.
